A Peek Inside My Marketing Crystal Ball

The scruffy looking fellow sauntered up to me at the back of the meeting room. His gaze was shifty, his manner nervous. He cleared his throat, stammered an introduction and stuck out his hand. That's how I met one of the largest internet lead brokers in the world recently in Houston, Texas.

The dialogue with him was worth the entire price of the plane ticket to the seminar. He introduced me to two other huge lead brokers. And what they shared with me blew my mind. Kind of. In retrospect, it confirmed for me what my intuition had been telling me.

Email marketing is dead. (nearly).

The three huge lead brokers confided in me that they were planning to quit the online lead business. They moaned about the changes in spam laws by the states, the vicious ISP mail filters, the bounces, the general malaise of prospects, low conversion rates and the weather. They were lower than a snake's belly. These 3 millionaires had all watched their gold mine tapped to near empty. Problem was they had bought cars, homes, and toys hoping the gold rush would continue...

When I got home from Texas, I got a call from one of the largest fax blasters in the world. They used to call him the Junk Fax King. This guy had made as much as a million a year generating leads via blast fax. The transition to the web hadn't gone quite so smoothly when new laws killed his fax business overnight.

He offered to sell me his database. He was getting out of the industry entirely and was going into real estate.

Hmmmm...

I spoke with 2 more online marketers of e-books and newsletters. They both told me that they have stopped all online marketing and are returning to mail order. They sold their existing web businesses and are going back to the 20th century....

The synchronicities kept coming. That night a huge lead vendor called to pitch me on some penny leads. As much as I wanted, 30 days old, 8 cents each. I wasn't particularly interested. I told him about the other guys.

"More for me, excellent!" was his response. He owns his own server bank, has 2 full time staff to make sure his email somehow gets through, and mails 15 million emails a week. A week!

"This business is for the big dogs now, David!" he chortled.

When the masses zig, the smart money zags....

You know what I'm talking about. If you do any kind of email marketing, you know that response rates are dropping through the floor. I remember when 1000 leads in a 10 series email would generate 90 leads. Now you're lucky if you get 9.

Here's my advice:

1) If you currently rely on bulk email, you need HUGE numbers. Get your list over the half million email mark as soon as you can. You can compensate for filtering and dropping conversions with bigger numbers. Our office can help you in this regard. Contact Chris for details.

2) Wean the smaller players on your team off dependence on bulk email. Move them towards generating their own leads through pay-per-click engines like Google and Overture.

3) Experiment with "Offline-to-Online" lead generation. I am using drop cards, flyers, posters, signs, car lettering, inserts, and small ads with some great success. I drive the lead into my online marketing machine for education and follow-up, without the reliance on email marketing.

4) Plan for the worst. Imagine that legislators kill email marketing the same way they did fax blasting. What will you do? What will your team do? It could happen within 12-18 months!

I look at the reliance on email marketing the same way as the tape wars of the mid-nineties. Remember Dead Doctors Don't Lie and the Ray Cassanno tape? The bulk mailing of audios died a gruesome death. So will bulk emailing.

For 56 years, network marketing has been a people building business. My crystal ball tells me that those that are best in being in front of emerging trends (or RE-emerging trends!) will prosper.

Too Broke To Do Network Marketing & Need Hot Prospects NOW

"Oh my God!" I exclaimed via Yahoo Instant Messenger. "That's freaking brilliant mate!"

It's hard to convey an Australian accent via Yahoo Instant Messenger but I gave it my best shot. A good friend in Melbourne had just blown my mind with a new idea for lead generation for network marketing.

He's 29, his wife is 24. Great young couple. They were just moving out of their apartment into a new home. Real estate is BOOMING in Australia, and they are renting their flat as an income property. Of course came the inevitable MOVE...do YOU like moving?

I kind of do. A chance to throw junk out...it's amazing how much STUFF we accumulate in our lives. My Aussie buddy had a different idea, a brilliant idea.

He sold all his crap on Ebay.

No big earth-shattering idea...lots of people sell stuff on Ebay, right?

Here's the brilliant marketing part...each successful bidder got a free marketing CD from his MLM business! The cost of the CD is absorbed by the profit in shipping and selling the junk he was going to throw out anyhow!

He has the prospects name, email and phone number. It's ridiculously easy to follow-up with them. With each CD was a killer sales letter, short and punchy, that made listening to the audio IRRESISTIBLE!

Tell me, honestly is that brilliant or what?

Now NO ONE is too broke to join your downline...no one has an excuse why they can't generate leads. We all have junk stuffing the closets and basements of our homes. Turn the junk into cash AND leads.

Uh-oh.

I just took away a big excuse...no money.

Here's a great question for you....How can I take action NOW based on this article?

Here's the second big lesson of this story...there really are NO EXCUSES! Just lack of internal motivation caused by fear and an unclear vision....but that's a whole story for another day!

MLM Lead Generation Via Newspaper Ads: The End Of An Era?

Recently I was discussing MLM lead generation with a coaching client of mine. He was lamenting the high cost of classified ads in regional and national newspapers. His cost per lead from USA Today was approaching the $40 per lead mark, and he was struggling with prospects scattered from coast to coast and every Podunk town in between. He had tried narrowing his ads to the main city papers in his state, and it was even worse.

He was seeing $300 ads not get a single phone call in the Business Opportunity Section of his big city paper. Anyone who has tried to build an MLM business for any length of time can relate. Lead flow is the lifeblood of the business. Ironically, I came into the industry via a small classified ad in my local city paper. In December 1990 I called of an ad in the Toronto Sun that said, "I'm 21, drive a new Corvette Convertible, own 5 homes, and make $15,000 a month. Call if you want I have. Serious enquiries only, don't waste my time."

I joined that cheeky monkey, and we ran that ad every single day for 6 months. In early 1991, we would never get less than 5 calls a day from that ad. I think our record was 23 calls in 1 day. 1 day! I enrolled over $30,000 in brand new volume in April 1991 from that ad alone. Eventually, others in the company started to rip off our ads, and flood the paper. The glory was over by August that year.

Today, the Toronto Sun doesn't have 1 single MLM ad in it. I checked the Biz Op section and there were 2 ads for starting your own carpet cleaning business and one for starting your own coffee truck. The medium has shifted.

If you are going to advertise, you need to be in front of your target market in the most cost-effective medium possible. In my opinion that is Google. You can now put your ads on Google Adwords as tightly targeted as a zip code. Let's say you want to create some leads in Las Vegas. You open an account in Google Adwords, pick your region, pick your keywords, write 2 ads, put in your visa number, and presto! You can have leads coming in within an hour. No waiting days for a newspaper. This is ultra-fast targeted MLM lead generation for the 21st century!

The true power is you can split-test your ads on the fly. You can constantly be tweaking headlines and ad copy. You can improve the pulling power of your ads every hour if you wanted to. The larger your keyword count, the more eyeballs will see your ad. If you want someone in Las Vegas who searches for "yeast infection herbal cure" you can put your ad right in front of his or her eyes. Nothing else is as powerful.

If you know what you are doing, you can eventually get 100 visitors to your landing web page for as little as $5.00. Even if your landing page is a super-tight screener, and only 5% fill out the form, that's still a cost per lead of a buck! If you ran an ad in any Las Vegas paper you couldn't get your cost per lead under 20 bucks, and forget about tweaking your ads on the fly.

Network marketers are notorious early adopters. Back in 1991 real estate agents, drug dealers and network marketers were the only ones with those giant brick cell phones. We were quick into fax on demand, video and audiotape prospecting, and of course we practically took over the web in 97. It's worth your time to teach yourself how to advertise on Google. There are a ton of great courses out there, discussion forums aplenty, and Google itself has a bunch of great tutorials. There is never any excuse to ever again have to buy an overpriced burned out lead from some broker.

Do You Have A Local MLM Lead Generation Strategy For Your Team?

I walked the 2 blocks in the drizzling rain this morning to get my favorite cup of coffee. No, not Starbucks. Tim Hortons. For those of you who aren't hockey fans (or Canadians), Tim Horton was a legendary hockey player who launched an even more legendary chain of coffee shops. It's secretly rumored that they put liquid nicotine in their coffee to get people hooked!

I don't know about that...I know that I get jittery, grumpy and twitchy if I don't get my Timmy fix every morning!

There is a town of 90,000 people in South West Ontario that has 3 Tim Hortons at one major intersection. The drive-throughs of all 3 are jammed every single morning. And it is at this location that a friend of mine does all her prospecting for her mlm business.

She gets up 30 minutes earlier than she did a year ago. She drives to the busy corner, parks, and goes car by car each morning as people sit waiting their turn to order coffee (does Starbucks have any drive throughs?). She taps on their glass, and hands them a prospecting card to promote her deal. She smiles and does 100 cars in under 20 minutes, then goes to her job. She has been doing this for 3 months, 5 days a week. Her consistency and persistence is amazing.

She gets all the leads she can handle, for under $2.70 a lead. All are local, have jobs, and are early morning commuters. She has tapped a gold mine!

The cool thing is she has sponsored 17 people frontline, and has nearly 40 in her group. And they all are working locally, and have a cookie cutter system for creating leads. They all use the same drop cards and flyers. In a year or two I predict she'll be able to leave her job at the car factory if she wants.

I stood in a snowbank every day in February 1988 handing out flyers because I wanted a better life. She does the same for the same reason. Most of our downlines won't do this. They have "too-cool-itis" or "too-lazy-itis" or "scarediosis-nervosa".

How often has a member told you, "I don't know anybody?" Do you have system to get them productive within 24 hours, and turn them into a lead generating machine?

Simple Secret To Creating Endless Prospects For Your MLM

Can I ask you a question? What was your very first experience with network marketing?

Can you remember how you felt? Was it excited? Or maybe nervous? Scared? Or perhaps confused?

I remember it like it was yesterday. In February 1988, I was in an elevator in downtown Toronto. I was 19 years old, and flunking out of med school. I had no money, no job skills, and I was desperate.

As I was contemplating my future, the doors to the elevator opened, and a businesswoman got on. She was professionally dressed in a pantsuit, and she had a big button on her jacket. I glanced at her from the corner of my eye and watched the numbers as the elevator descended.

"You look like a sharp young man!" she suddenly said. "Do you keep your eyes open for ways to make extra money?"

I actually had to glance over my shoulder to see whom she was talking to. There was just she and I!

I had long hair down to my shoulders, an earring, a Metallica t-shirt, battered old sneakers, blue jeans and an old leather U of T college jacket. I stammered out something that sounded like "Ark glumba!"

She took that as a yes. She handed me her card, smiled and got off the elevator. I stool there frozen like a statue. The doors closed again and I got a free ride up another dozen floors before blood flowed back to my brain. The card was white with red ink:

I joined her downline, and lasted only 6 months. But I did over $10,000 in volume in that time. I figure she made about $2500 from handing me that card.

How many gorgeous, sharp looking prospects with long hair, earrings, heavy-metal t-shirts and leather jackets did you talk to yesterday?

OH NO! You're not a "Prospect Snob" are you?

I see it all the time with networkers. They are waiting for the perfect looking, perfect smelling, perfectly resumed, perfect prospect to come waltzing into their downlines to save the day, go Diamond in 90 days and make them rich!

That didn't take a crystal ball. The email lead sellers are dropping like flies. Pay-per-click prices are rising steadily. And talking to a person is the lowest cost per lead method I know.

The MLM Success Secrets of the Right Warm Market Leads

In order to start your business, you must do what is called a “Memory Jogger”, which is a list of names of people that you know that you will call or contact to tell about your products or mlm business.

Most folks that do a memory Jogger in mlm, or makes a names List, find that they have some difficulty coming up with the names. The Network marketing Company you have partnered with should provide you with a list of “Triggers” that will trigger your mind of people that you know.

INFERNO Secret:

It is a Psychological Fact that if you are 25 years or older, you know 1000 people.

You have just forgotten most of them, so you need a reminder of them. That is the purpose for a Network Marketing Memory Jogger.

The list could contain names of family, occupations, associations, plus many more. You need to look at the list and come up with as many names as you can.

A list would look something like this:

Mother
Father
Sisters
Brothers
Cousins
Neighbors
Friends
Church
Accountants
Bankers
Attorneys
Builders
Construction workers
Communication workers
Car Salesman
Coaches
Dancers
Electrical workers
Engineers
Fireman
Florists
Flooring Sales
Jewelers
Karate Instructors
Life Insurance Sales
Legal Assistants
Machine Shop workers
Retail Sales clerks

Etc.

You get the idea.

But you must come up with at least 50 names the first attempt.

This will give you what I call a “Working Inventory”.

Your REAL Inventory is NOT the products or Services your company sells. It is PEOPLE.

And you MUST have people to talk to about what you are doing. Many folks who start out have way too few names, and then complain that they have no one to talk to. Think of everyone you know WITHOUT judging their interest level, and write their name down. Use the Memory Jogger provided by your network marketing company, and do it with your upline. It will become a very important part of your beginning success in MLM.

INFERNO Secret:

Use the “Follow your Dollar” strategy to come up with names for your warm market list. WHO are you spending money with to live your life and purchase things for you and your family?

Who is your Insurance Agent?

Who did you buy your car from?

Who do you buy your clothes from?

Who sold you your house?

Who do you buy your airline tickets from?

Whose your doctor?

Who does your taxes?

Who is your Dentist?

Are you starting to get the point?

There are people you do business with. You need to let them know you could use their help in your new network marketing enterprise.

Say, ”I think you would agree that I do a lot of business with you, and I need your help with my new enterprise.”

INFERNO Secret:

To DOUBLE the size of any Memory Jogger, you need to ask a question.

“Who do you know that they know?”

This will double the size of any Names List you can potentially come up with.

Doing a Memory Jogger is important to your getting off to a good start in Network Marketing. Make sure you do it and follow the suggestions your company recommends for massive MLM and Network Marketing Success.

The MLM Success Secrets of Striking Gold in Your Memory Jogger

The question all new Network Marketing Distributors ask when they get started is:

“Who Do I Know?”

In this mlm training article, we are going to go over the contact list. This is where you start “Digging for Gold” in your network marketing business!

Every name that you know is a gold mine. And most never dig it. This article will help you understand where the gold mine really is in your relationships.

INFERNO Secret:

It is NOT who you know. It is who your friends know, and then who THEY know, and then who THEY know, and then who THEY know.

It is called "Generations" in a memory jogger. You MUST dig into the generation structures of your memory jogger, and understand that it is sometimes 2-3 generations deep before you strike gold.

Your friends are a valuable resource to your dream, and many will help you build it if you ask them. These are people you want to begin sharing the life-changing message and products/services of your mlm company with immediately.

You will want to write down at least 25 people to start. And then build up to a list of 52 names, and eventually 100 or more.

Why 52 names?

There is nothing magical about the number 52, but it is used to help create a mental picture. The number 52 represents a deck of 52 cards. With your mlm program, you can reach upper network marketing leadership levels with the right leaders.

So picture yourself with a deck of 52 cards. You know that somewhere in that deck there are 4 “Aces,” and you need at least 3 Aces to maximize your success initially. You don’t know where the Aces are, but you know they are somewhere in the deck.

Imagine turning those cards over systematically one at a time, searching for those Aces until you find them. Go through your list of 52 names one at a time… Just remember that there are also a couple of “Jokers” in every deck!

It may take one person 37 cards to find the aces, another 45, and then another all 52. But the aces WILL show up!

INFERNO Secret:

If you continue to flip the cards over, you WILL find the aces. If you continue to talk to people, you WILL find the aces.

This next step should be done with your sponsor face-to-face or on the telephone.

You will find that there are basically three people you will be talking to:

1) The people that are Motivated.

These are 20% of the people. They are motivated to grow, improve, and to increase who they are and where they are going in life. They will be very interested in what you have to say.

2) The people that are Curious.

These are the 30% of the people. They are curious about what you have to say, and curious about finding out more about your products. Many of these folks will end up being customers as well as distributors in your mlm business.

3) The People that are not interested.

These are the 50% of the people that simply are not interested in change and growth, and will not really listen to what you have to say. Get referrals if possible, sell them your products, but move on! They like where they are in life, and want to stay there for now. That could change. Don’t take it personally.

You want to find the people that are motivated for your network marketing business, and talk to them. They are the ones that want to do something with their life. The curious will want to know, and the uninterested will want to be negative. It will take a lot of conversations to find the motivated, but you will need a tool that can help you construct your mlm contact list.

INFERNO Secret:

Quit looking for the people you are looking for, and start looking for the people who are looking for you.

The Top 15 MLM Lead Companies in Network Marketing

That is a sound of music to my ears. Why? I worked MLM Leads for nearly 8 years, and had great success with them. That is why that I have a pretty good understanding of what really makes a good MLM Lead, and what does not.

In the pursuit of finding these top 15 Network Marketing Lead companies, there were some requirements and considerations that went into the mix. An MLM lead is only part of the MLM Lead Success Formula. There were 5 things that we looked at when we were considering MLM Lead Companies.

What are they?

1) Quality of the MLM lead.

Quality of lead is everything. There are some great looking websites out there that look totally rocking, but we found that the quality of leads when we called them, were less than what you should expect in an MLM lead.

Beautiful site, great looking logo, lousy leads.

That is why we actually had people order leads, and we called them. We called more than one bunch of leads as well. This at least would give us a feeling of consistency or lack of it. The MLM Lead companies we chose were highly consistent in quality of lead, and people who truly were looking for a business. It took us 7 months to complete the research on MLM leads.

2) Training of working the MLM Leads.

Many of the beautiful sites offered no type of ongoing training, and that was something that really needs to be be a part of any good MLM leads programs. There were some that had online training, as well as cds and training series you could purchase. That was good, but the ongoing live training was the best idea, and we found many MLM leads Companies that did just that.

Training also includes scripts, handling objections, presentation, following up, closing, and other MLM leads topics. There are some HOT MLM leads sites out there that truly delivered on this quality of MLM leads training.

3) MLM Leads Support.

The support factor was key. Once the MLM leads were purchased, was there somehow support in case of need? Most had email support, some had live phone support, and some had live instant message support. There were sites that offered no support, and if you had a challenge with your MLM leads, then good luck.

The support should be somehow resolving issues that arise, including bad mlm leads, wrong numbers or emails, and general problems. The MLM Leads companies we found that were the best, had a support system. And some type of guarantee also should be part of the network marketing lead program.

4) Targeted MLM leads.

Many companies had different types of targeted mlm leads, including company specific, live tv leads, local leads, gender specific, product specific, area code specific, among others. Targeted mlm leads are the favorite of the Networkers I talked to, as it gives people a more focused lead, and a more targeted impact.

5) Pricing of the MLM leads.

This was a huge factor in determining many people's decision to buy. But to be blunt, you get what you pay for. There are many cheap network marketing home business lead companies with cheap leads, but here is a warning:

Be careful. You get what you pay for.

The Top 10 Realities of Working MLM Leads

What is an MLM Lead? And why would you need an MLM lead to work? In Network Marketing, many times we run out of warm market, or we simply do not have many friends in an area. MLM leads help you to find people that are interested in a Network Marketing Home Business. They have called in either off of an ad, or maybe off of an internet site, and indicated they have an interest in a home based business.

After having worked MLM Leads for 8 years, and made over 50,000 phone calls, there are some things that you need to know. MLM leads are a great way to work MLM, but there are 10 things you need realize about MLM Leads. They can be a GOLD MINE, or an empty shaft. You must learn the difference.

1)They are NOT a guaranteed Sale or Recruit.

Just because they have indicated an interest, does not mean they are a done deal. They are simply many times “kicking tires” and checking to see what is out there. Make sure you know that they are serious about looking at your company.

2)They many times are NOT truly willing to change their life.

What a lead says, and what a lead does are 2 different things many times. You must be aware that they may change their mind once they realize they have to change some things in their life. Many people are apathetic. Move on when they show you this.

3)An MLM Lead is usually very skeptical and guarded.

This is normal. Many people who you will call, will want to get to know you first, and then take a serious look at your offer. Develop the relationship, for that is what will develop the Success.

4)An MLM lead is NOT a source of future Volume. Only a POTENTIAL Source.

The potential of an MLM lead can be HUGE, or nothing. That is why that you call them. There may be a gold mine waiting to be dug in that lead, or it may end up being a pile of dirt as far as potential. You must understand that. You qualify them and then make your decision if they are worth pursuing.

5)There are many leads that have been burned before with other MLM companies.

Many MLM leads you call have had a home business before, but got burned from dishonest people. They carry that “hurt” into your conversation, and you must be sensitive to it. Let them tell you about it, and you listen. You will be surprised at the good that can do for them, and you. They will respect your willingness to listen, and care.

6)An MLM Lead IS looking for something, but you must find out what that something is.

You MUST find what the lead is looking for. Financial Security? Recognition? Training? Personal Development? Freedom? Pay for kid’s college? To quit their job? All of these are possibilities, and you must zero in on what they are looking for. Once you discover it, help them obtain it with your company.

7)An MLM Lead is human, and has Dreams just like you.

One of the great things about MLM leads as they are human, and most want a better life for themselves and family. They have dreams, and goals. You just talk to them about their dreams, and their desires and hope for their life. Make their dream a priority in your initial conversation. You will be surprised at their response to your interest in helping them achieve their Dreams.

8)An MLM Lead can, and will, lead you on, and then disappear.

I call it the “ADP.” The Amazing Disappearing Prospect. Many leads you call, will try and lead you on because they appear to want to be chased and that makes them feel important. Do NOT chase them. How Heavy Hitters Avoid Rejection Working MLM Leads

“But, these people are telling me NO and I don’t like the way that feels,” he told me.

“The same rejection, real or imagined, that make some people $10,000 per month in this industry will cause others to abandon their dreams,” I replied.

In the MLM industry, you see the heavy hitters who know how to work MLM leads flourish no matter if the industry is up, down or flat. Why? What do they know that the masses buying MLM leads don’t know? How are they able to quickly and easily get through enough leads and find the right people to give them a $10,000+ per month lifestyle?

There’s a quote I use in our seminars, “The fire that burns one person warms another”.

Heavy hitters know how to get warmed and not burned in working MLM leads.

First, a couple of facts.

FACT #1 – MLM lead quality has steadily gone down over the last 10 years.

FACT #2 – The quantity of leads has risen and well the as the number of MLM lead companies.

Fact #3 – MLM lead lists are sold over and over again. The people you call have heard their phone ring many times from these lists!

Being at the junction of these three facts is needlessly hurting tens of thousands of well intentioned MLMr’s.

Our survey of top MLM lead list buyers who make full-time incomes has revealed three critical points.

Critical point #1 – A manual phone sort after an internet automated sort is no longer enough. You used to be able to ask someone 3-4 qualifying questions and determine who you should take through your information process. Not anymore. Now the numbers you need take through most systems are three to four times what they were just a few years ago.

Critical point #2 – Heavy hitters tell us rejection never feels like rejection if it’s from someone who truly can be successful in MLM. It the prospect is truly high quality, they’ll take a serious look at your opportunity in a business-like fashion. That is a good feeling. This is opposite of the millions of tire kickers and wannabees filling out lead inquiry forms as you read this. These low quality prospects drain the life blood out of you. That kind of rejection is blood curdling.

Critical point #3 – Successful heavy hitters look at time management differently. They are using the 80/20 rule to their advantage. How? By getting in a position to only get rejected by capable prospects. Knowing low quality prospects can’t move their business forward, they continually seek ways to only talk to higher probable prospects.

Capable prospects who are also looking are the people you need to build a strong six-figure income. Capable means they have the ability to build a business. They’ll have a bigger warm circle of influence, better people skills, ability to inspire and lead a group, stay on auto-ship longer, buy a sufficient number of MLM leads every month, and they’ll enter your opportunity at higher levels. Any MLM lead list contains about 23% of what we call these “top tier” prospects.

Looking means they’re ready to take action immediately after they’ve been through your information process. Frustration is talking to or sponsoring someone who is looking but NOT capable.

Here lies the big problem in the industry. MLM lead list brokers only tell you who’s looking. The process of optimizing MLM leads tells you who’s probable of being successful.

We’ve noticed heavy hitters have been the early adopters of MLM lead optimization.

Because they are time conscious and want to only be softly rejected by capable people, they’re only calling 20-25% of their MLM lead lists. They’re focusing 80% of their time on capable and looking prospects.

The time they’re saving by not prospecting and working with the wrong prospects is spent with the family, traveling and enjoying their MLM lifestyle.

How To Get More And Better Referrals

Asking for referrals is a great way to boost your Network Marketing and MLM business by increasing the flow of leads.

Unfortunately, many Network Marketers and MLM Distributors are either reluctant to ask for referrals or, when they do, not very effective in getting good referrals.

The first problem, being reluctant to ask for referrals, is largely a consequence of not establishing a genuine connection with the other person. After all, we're asking for something from them and if we haven't already provided something of value to them, then there's no sense of reciprocity.

This problem won't arise when you use the principles of "Natural Selling".

The second problem, not being effective at getting referrals, is largely the result of the way people go about asking for the referral.

Network Marketers and MLM Distributors often say something like…

"Do you know anyone that would be interested in this opportunity or these products?"

Personally I would not recommend using these words. It makes the request too vague. It needs to be more precise.

The word "anyone" leaves it too open. It needs to be narrowed down. Using the phrase, "that would be interested" requires someone to make a judgment and a decision for their friend or associate.

A more precise and effective approach would be…

"Who do you know that is ambitious and wanting to get ahead, who would consider looking at this opportunity for themselves?"

or

"Who do you know that has challenges such as (name some problems your product will solve) and would consider looking at these (products) to make themselves (feel/look) better?"

With questions framed like this, you help the other person visualize what you are looking for, and the only level of interest you're requesting is willingness for someone to "consider looking."

This is much softer and less threatening.

There's a further step that will make the referral even more useful for you.

Once someone has given you the referral, ask the following question…

"Thank you! I appreciate that. Before I follow up, perhaps you could tell me why you think your friend could benefit from me talking with them about (your product or starting her own business)?"

You then listen to all the reasons they think you can help their friend. You make a note of these reasons and ask more questions around them.

Later when you call your referral, you will have something to talk about. You will be able to make sure the information is correct. You'll also have an idea as to how to present the correct solution.

It also shows you really care as opposed to trying to pressure your referral or thrust a solution down her throat as soon as you call.

There is an added benefit in that you demonstrate to the person who gave you the referral that you care, and that you are consistent and in integrity. And if you haven't already got the relevant contact details, it's then easy to ask…

"Well, if you would like to give me their number I will call them and see if I can be of help."

You don't need to stop at just one referral of course! Once someone has provided a referral, you can thank them and simply say…

"Who else do you know…?"

Once someone gives you a referral, you'll want to follow up as soon as possible. The extra information you gathered will make this easier and more effective for you.

Asking for referrals is a great way to boost your Network Marketing and MLM business building and it's a good idea to make it part of your routine. What I've suggested in this article will help you get more and better quality leads.

How To Start An Effective Conversation When Calling Leads

I was recently talking with a colleague about the quickest and easiest ways to build a network marketing business.

We both agreed that using a proper lead program is an excellent way for Network Marketers and MLM Distributors to build their business. If done properly, that is.

After all, the people who respond to the advertisements for these programs have "raised their hands" and said they are interested in a business opportunity.

However, many Network Marketers get poor or only mediocre results from their leads. Even when every single month they spend a hundred dollars, two hundred dollars or even more.

And, of course, poor results mean that all those dollars have been wasted and gone down the drain.

Now, over the years I have worked with many distributors and observed first hand the results of many lead programs.

Usually, any time someone is not getting results from a proper lead program, the problem is not the leads themselves. The reason for the disappointing results is how the distributor has approached the leads.

For example, many Network Marketers are taught to use "canned" scripts when they call leads. Or to focus on getting the person to listen in on a conference call which will "close" them on the opportunity.

Unfortunately, there's a huge problem when you do things like this. The people you're contacting feel like you're treating them as nothing more than sheep being rounded up.

It's no surprise that people hate being treated this way. They respond by raising objections and rejecting what you have to offer.

Instead of falling into this trap, ask yourself this question. Why has someone responded to an advertisement about a business opportunity?

The answer is that they're looking to make a change in their lives. So your job is to find out what that is and interview them. You're looking to discover if what you have will fit what they're looking for.

Equally important, you want to discover if they are the kind of person that you're looking for. Someone who will be an enthusiastic and keen member of your team.

I'm sure you'll agree that starting off the conversation on the right foot is critical. Here's the six-step formula I suggest for calling and connecting with someone from a lead list:

Step 1: State who you are.

Step 2: Where you are from.

Step 3: Give them a ‘heads up’ as to why you’re calling, by referencing and reminding them that they asked you to.

Step 4: Ask them if this is a good time.

Step 5: Discover if they are still looking.

Step 6: Find out their present situation and ask how you can help them.

Let’s look at an example of this. Say I’ve chosen to call a lead named Mary:

Step 1: “Hi Mary, this is Michael Oliver”

Step 2: “Of XYZ Company”

Step 3: “You recently enquired about a home-based business opportunity, and I’m calling to find out if I can help?”

Step 4: “Is this a good time for you?”

Step 5: “Good! Let me start by asking you a question – have you found what you wanted or are you still looking?”

Step 6: “Okay. Well, before I get into what I’ve got, perhaps you can tell me a little about you and what you’re looking for, for example, are you presently working?” (or ask some other Background Question.)

I’ve discovered the response to just one question can give you enough material to converse on for several minutes of meaningful relationship building conversation. People really do have the answers, all you need are the right questions – and to give them time to answer them.

Remember to:

1.Listen to the answers.

2.Ask questions to gather more information.

3.Ask them to expand on their answers and where they are coming from.

4.Ask them to expand on what they are looking for.

Once you've discovered more about what they're looking for then you're much better able to explain how what you have to offer can provide what they want.

One final tip. Leads are like bananas; they ripen quickly, so use them promptly. If time is an issue think about handing some out to your associates. If you’re reticent about calling the leads, remind yourself you’re calling someone who has asked you to call. It’s impolite not to return their request!

7 Ways To Excel At Calling Leads

I love calling qualified leads! To me they are the easiest and most effective way to increase business. People have made fortunes from doing it and so can you. The key is to mentally prepare yourself and step out of the box of conventional thinking and doing.

Here are 7 ways to do that.

1. Call your leads when no one else is - During so-called "quiet" times

There are certain periods of the year, for example summer, that many will say is a slow time. And they're right ... because they say it's slow. And because they say it, they believe it and what they believe happens. Others will say it isn't slow... and they're right too. And THAT is what makes the difference between mediocrity and greatness!

Let me ask you this. If you had a regular business and you closed it down for 3 months in the summer, what would happen to the momentum, profitability and goodwill of the company? The answer is obvious. So why is it so many Distributors' take the summer off? Wouldn't the same thing likely happen?

So make the summer, and other so-called "quiet" times, a stellar time to be in the market and expanding your business. Unlike fall and winter, the field is clear... there is less competition, and you have more time to find, nurture and train your new downline.

2. Calling leads from a lead list is NOT cold calling!

If you’re a little nervous about calling, remind yourself you’re calling someone who has requested you do so. This is because they are looking for something and you might have the solution.

A cold call is calling someone you have never met and don’t know about. It’s like pulling a name randomly out of the phone book. So do yourself and them a favor... return their request as soon as possible and discover what that is.

3. Expect Positive Responses

People don't think what you think they think. If you start your call with the negative expectation that you will get a lot of resistance - the chances are you will! Why? Because you get what you expect!

People are mostly kind and receptive. Just like you, they're looking for ways to make their life easier, more fulfilling, etc. That's why they invited you to help them.

Again, change your thinking to one that your lead is expecting you to call.

4. Discover What’s Missing In Your Lead's Life

Whatever you do, don't get into the trap of thinking that it's all about "educating" or "giving them information". It's not. It's about allowing them talk in detail about what they want and why they want it.

Having this frame of mind is so important. See yourself as a problem solver... as someone who has potential solutions to the problems your leads are facing. How do you do you do that? By getting into Dialogue with them by

1. Asking questions
2. Listening without prejudging
3. Feeding back based on what you’ve heard them say.

Then you'll find every call you make will end with a positive result. Why? Because people love talking about themselves, and they will always feel good about you and listen to you... if you listen to them first!

5. Go Slow To Go Fast.

Spend time here helping you and your lead qualify each other. Ironically, the more time you spend, the faster you will build your business.

Relationships take time. If you don't have time when you call - when will you find time? THIS is the time to find out their 'Why'. Not later on. Your lead will give you all the time in the world. Why? Because they are talking about their favorite subject… themselves. Time just flies by.

6. Qualifying.

Did I say in #5, "helping you and your lead qualify each other"? Yes I did. The answers to your questions are just as much for your lead to think about... ponder and perhaps shift their beliefs over... as they are for you!

Contrary to a lot of conventional opinion, selling is not about qualifying your lead in the first 15 seconds. It's impossible to find out about anything from most people in 15 seconds and you'll lose more opportunities than you will gain if you take this attitude. Spend the time.

7. Don't Wait to Get Good

Most Distributors' wait to be good! As someone I know says, "1 degree of temperature can turn boiling water into steam". Raise yourself by one degree and you'll turn yourself into the star that's waiting to be released.

These 7 tips will help you get the most from your leads. So, take action and call NOW! The sooner you speak with people, the quicker you'll build your business and get the results you're looking for.

I have made my decision and I am now a part of the elite Genius Club. That helps to define me as a person committed to action! Also, I am a loving family person at home and I won’t ever let up. I love my family and therefore I MUST go beyond my old comfort zone.

I will not back away, slow down or ever complain about my mission and decision.

I live my life between Amen and achievement. For which I am proud. I know that there isn’t any other way. Every step I take from now on, I will create the path for all of those who will follow behind me. That is called servanthood. I am done with small thinking, lack of planning and my past lack of discipline.

I have been renewed. No more gossiping. No more cheap excuses. No more shame. I no longer need validation or applause from anyone because I am self directed and a part of the Genius Club World Wide! We walk together and as one.

..and the prayer continues:

I don’t have to be first. I don’t have to be heard by all and I don’t care whether everyone likes me or not. Because I now walk in faith. Which is Gods way of getting me to where I am supposed to be. I am a team player. I play hard and I pray harder.

I will no longer seek to be in the popularity pool and I will forever hold my vision and faith as an “absolute”. I am me, I am enough and I love myself. I am a real MLM Diamond.

I have my goals written out and my attitude is high. I am a winner, a visionary and a leader. My advisers and counsel are always available to me and I will never be without them again.

I am a good follower which in time, will help to make me a good leader. I am prepared to fight and to pay the price for freedom. I will mentor _________people my first month into my program and teach my new partners to start the same way that I did. I am a leader and I will not be denied my goal. I will never let up or give up.

And this is my prayer to myself.

I know this is true. I will be earning_________ within one year. I am loyal to the club because I am loyal to my team and I am loyal to the team because I am strong and loyal to myself. Only good comes from my lips and my words heal the pain in the hearts of other people. I speak my world into existence and I am a leader. I know this is true. I will teach the good news of Prosperity and teach the standards and procedures of my fellow partners. This country really needs me right now. We are all bound by the call of freedom. The BIG ACTION club will never have a problem recognizing me as one of their own. Join me in celebrating excellence.

My world is bountiful.

The Insider's View Into the MLM Opt-In Leads Industry

Everyone wants to be on the inside... at least if you are on the outside looking in. I’m old enough to remember walking with my parents or grandparents through the downtown streets of Springfield, IL at Christmas time, and looking in the display windows of all the Christmas decorations, toys, and electric trains. I was on the outside, and I wanted inside where the good stuff was.

Well, I don’t know if you are on the outside of the MLM Leads industry wanting to get in, but I want to take you on a tour - to get the inside scoop of the leads business. If you knew what actually went on in some arenas, you may think the inside scoop looks like this picture.

How Leads are Generated

For the most part, network marketing leads are generated over the Internet. While I don’t have a scientific study for this across all the leads companies, I would estimate 85-90% of all leads you find for sale are originated on the Internet.

There are two main reasons for this. First, the Internet is where most people are doing their research today when looking for jobs, for ways to make extra money, how to invest, etc. So, why not go where the people are looking. Second, it is the most cost effective (usually).

Generally speaking, a person is surfing the Internet, doing a Google search, and checking out their options for ways to make extra income. Or, sometimes the person is not even thinking about wanting more money when an online ad catches their attention and they check it out. So, they fill out a form and hit submit.

That is the basics of online lead generation. Some person is out there surfing the Net. There is an online ad. The person fills out the online form and hits submit, and BOOM, they are now a prospect waiting to be sold.

Sounds innocent enough huh? In fact, it sounds like quite a nice system. Wouldn’t we all like to receive a batch of leads after they had been surfing the Internet for ways of making money from home... they filled out a form... and now you have their name, phone, and E-mail address in your hands.

But, let’s look at what happens out there sometimes and some of the variables that can make a HUGE difference in the type of lead you now hold in your hand.

Incentivized Leads

in-cen-tive (noun) - : something that incites or has a tendency to incite to determination or action

One of the biggest problems that exists among the Internet lead generation business is the incentives that "incites" or "entices" a person to fill out a form and hit submit. If you have purchased leads long enough, then you have probably come across the person who did not know they were going to be contacted about a home business... instead they were going to get a new Video iPod, $10,000, or a vacation cruise.

So, what do you do? You go to XYZ Leads company and you buy a batch of leads. The leads are $2.25 each, so you buy 50 of them for $112.50. There is a chance you may find a good prospect in there, but, for the most part, you are going to have "wishy-washy" prospects.

No lead is ever pure because we don't know what other sites the prospect has been to, filling out forms, and checking out other businesses. However, if you are going to invest in leads, it is worth a few extra minutes of research or an email or phone call to the owners, to know what kind of leads you are purchasing. And, even more important, order a smaller batch of leads to test market before moving forward with a company. Leads are all about results, so ask and test.

Finding MLM Leads Thru Creativity

Not too many years ago we found mlm leads the old fashioned way and we called it work. I'm not sure that's really changed except now the working process is a little different. We use our technology more today and bronze a lot less. Being creative in finding mlm leads however can be very productive.

The business partners I found that wanted to work from home while making money came from all walks of life. The first active partner I found had less money than me and we decided to pool our resources and energy to find those people that wanted to work at home.

We had 1,000's of business cards made and put them on car windshields at airports late at night. While doing that we had hundreds of signs printed (we posted them all over) with snappy little sayings and a 800 voice mail box with a pre-recorded message. You could leave your information at the end of the message and we'd call you back.

Needless to say most people wouldn't follow through once they found out that it was networking marketing because of previous experience or bad publicity they'd heard from someone along the way. We also handed out little 3x5 cards we had printed up in color's and handed them to people we found during the day at grocery store parking lots.

That resulted in handing out 100's per day. And again a little blurb about being a wholesale distributor associated with a home based business opportunity. Call an 800# listen to the message, leave your info and we'd call you back.

All this activity was pretty inexpensive and yielded lots of activity. The people that did respond on a positive note were invited to a business opportunity meeting at a local restaurant where my partner and I put on a hour or so meeting about our business. Gradually we trained others to do the same thing. Yes, in a way it was hard work but it payed off for certain.

Today people use computer systems to find recruits, do presentations, training, record keeping and sending out follow letters and even voice emails.

What an exciting time for affiliate programs, network marketing and the work at home jobs crowd. Online systems and a few bucks makes what we did look ridiculous. The time spend by us could have been cut down by 95% had we have had access to the modern tools of today to help us find mlm leads for our networking business.

How Can You Build A Huge MLM Downline In The Summer

Finally, you're here! I've been promising to cook for you for a while now. The tuna steaks are on the BBQ, the potatoes are roasting and it is fantastic! Here, pop a cold one, sit back, and let's talk about building huge downlines in the summer.

You've heard all the excuses, so I won't even bring them up here. But let me tell you a story.

A few years ago I was in major recruiting mode over the summer. I wanted to win a company cruise. I grabbed my day planner, my lead lists, my cordless phone, and sat out by the pool at the cottage for 4 or 5 hours a day making calls. Just one after the other, bang, bang, bang.

I mean, come on, it's not really work. I sat by the pool, the birds sang, I drank iced tea, and talked to people who wanted to make more money. If they were open to the idea, I'd invite them to listen to a prerecorded conference call and then we talked from there about the business.

I got serious on June 21st. I kept in major production mode for about 100 days, until Canadian Thanksgiving. Then we shut the cottage down for the season.

When I looked down at my logs in mid-October I was shocked. I had enrolled 103 new personals in 100 days. I smashed every record at the company, and won a free cruise. That effort duplicated from those 103 into 8000 people in more than a dozen countries 3 years later.

How did I do it? I sat by the pool; called lead lists 4 or 5 hours a day, drank iced tea, and just flat out worked hard. It was a great summer. I had plenty of time to swim, BBQ, visit with friends and family AND get work done.

Did I get some NO's? About 30 a day. But I had so many YES's, and so many prospects in the pipeline, and so much follow-up going on, that it didn't matter.

Yikes! The tuna steaks are done. Let me run out and put them on a plate. Grab yourself another cold drink and I'll be back in a minute.

Think about what kind of action you'd have to take to enroll 100 people frontline in 100 days and I'll be right back!

Hey You Look Smart, Can I Ask You A Question? Which One, A or B?

Good grief, you look famished! Come on in; let me fix you a quick bite. All I have is hotdogs, and my wife is out. Sit down and relax, and I'll microwave you 2 dogs. Mustard and ketchup?

While you're enjoying those Ballpark Franks, let me tell you a quick story about my latest prospecting adventures. I've figured out a way to get 2-3 prospects a day doing almost nothing.

I've been testing two varieties of sizzle cards from the boys over at Growth Pro (http://www.newgrowthpro.com/). One is bright orange, and one is bright green.

I live my daily rock star life, and incorporate a "Killer Question" at every opportunity. This morning before my workout I went to Starbucks for a Solo Espresso. The girl behind the cash register was friendly, and they were slow so no one was waiting. I saw my chance to ask my "Killer Question". I gave her my million dollar smile, and pulled two cards out of my pocket.

"Hey, you look smart. Let me ask you a question. I just got new business cards. Which do you like better, A or B?".

I gave her both samples.

It was fascinating. She clutched both, scanning back and forth. And then she said "B".

"Thanks! Why did you pick B?"

"The word 'tired' jumped out at me."

The headline read "Are You Tired Of Living Paycheck To Paycheck?". It was 11 am and she was already tired of her shift. Very interesting.

I smiled, thanked her, took my espresso, and said, "Keep those cards. They'll bring you good luck."

I do this when I get gas for my Mercedes, when I go look at plasma TVs and new laptops at Best Buy, when I go get a haircut or buy gum, and basically any chance I get.

I find for every 100 cards I put out in this fashion, I get about 8 prospects. I'm really just rolling this out, so I'll let you know when I have more numbers to analyze. The key is to give them a choice. It seems to relax their defenses and put their mind into "do-me-a-favor" mode. You may want to try this at home!

How's that hotdog? Did it take the edge off your hunger pangs? Good.

I've got to go. I want to go check out a new stereo system, and I bet I can ask my "Killer Question" a few times.
